Warnings about PRIDE.

AdministrorNotes

The Bible has much to say about the subject of Pride.

In fact, the word Pride is used 46 different times in the Bible. Some of those verses are listed below.

Proverbs 11:2  “When pride cometh, then cometh shame: but with the lowly is wisdom.”

Proverbs 13:10  “Only by pride cometh contention: but with the well advised is wisdom.”

Proverbs 14:3  “In the mouth of the foolish is a rod of pride: but the lips of the wise shall preserve them.”

Proverbs 16:18  “Pride goeth before destruction, and an haughty spirit before a fall.”

Proverbs 29:23  “A man’s pride shall bring him low: but honour shall uphold the humble in spirit.”

Every human being on planet Earth has a measure of Pride.

Some areas of pride can actually be beneficial, such as pride in personal appearance. This will cause a person to be clean and neat. However, even this area of pride can get out of control.

When pride causes a person to think more highly of himself than he ought to think, while looking down on the possessions or appearance of others, his pride has gotten out of control.

When pride causes us to think we are better, smarter, better looking, or more popular than those around us, it has gotten out of control.

When pride causes you to make bad choices, it has gotten out of control.

We read in the Bible that it was the sin of pride that caused the devil (then called Lucifer) to be cast out of Heaven long before the creation of man. God created Lucifer as an angel to serve Him; however, Lucifer decided to try and lift his position above God and was dealt with severely.

In the book of Genesis, we find that Cain killed his brother Abel as a result of pride. Cain became offended that God did not accept his sacrifice while, at the same time, he did accept the sacrifice of Cain’s brother Abel. Cain’s pride brought about great jealousy in his heart and he slew his own brother.

Also in the book of Genesis, we find that pride caused the brothers of Joseph to sell him to a group of wandering merchantmen as a slave. Joseph’s brothers then told their father, Jacob, that a wild beast had killed Joseph.

Through these Bible illustrations, we see that pride can be a very dangerous and deadly thing when it enters a person’s heart.

Even though we have seen some very terrible things that have resulted from the sin of pride, let us now see the most dangerous result of pride.

As human beings, we often act or react in certain situations based on what others will think of us. Many people regulate everyday decisions based upon the likes or dislikes of others.

Hair styles, clothing, and even friendship choices are sometimes made as a result of peer pressure (the opinions of others).

As troublesome and disturbing as this may be, there is still something much worse! That is, making eternal decisions based upon peer pressure, which is motivated by PRIDE!

The most important decision you make in this life is NOT what kind of car you will drive, how much money you want to make or who your boyfriend or girlfriend is!

The most important decision you will ever make is to accept or reject God’s free gift of salvation.

Cars break down; jobs come and go; beauty fades, but eternity is FOREVER!

Every person that is living or has ever lived will spend eternity somewhere.

YOU will spend eternity somewhere!
